Archive

The German Photographic Academy began its activities in 1919 with the founding of its predecessor organisation, “GDL” (Society of German Photographers). This archive of original documents (almost 100%) includes all the written material that was created and preserved by the society since then.

The archive is the DFA’s cultural heritage and serves to commemorate its traditions. It includes extensive material of all the society’s activities and communications, both internal and external. The archive makes it possible to research the objectives, working methods and development of the society and its members. An exemplary representation of the archive is its 100 years of German photographic history with an emphasis on artistic photography.

For the first time, and on the occasion of the archive’s 100th anniversary, the material was scientifically analysed to make it available to both members and academics. The archival inventory is publicly accessible via https://dfa.archium.org. Your contact person is Corinna Weidner (archiv@dfa.photography).
