DFA#31 Wolfgang Gscheidle: From Labor Photographer to Advertising Photographer

Stuttgart-based photographer Wolfgang Gscheidle @wolfgang_from_stuttgart has come a long way: from a left-wing activist in labour photography and the early days of the University of Applied Sciences Pforzheim in the late 1960s to a successful still-life photographer working alongside industry giants like Dietmar Henneka in the advertising business of the 1980s and 1990s. Only now is Wolfgang Gscheidle devoting himself more intensively to his independent work, particularly ironic self-portrait installations.

DFA colleague Christoph Linzbach visited Faure for several days to observe the complex and seemingly outdated intaglio printing process.

Guest Curators

The DFA regularly invites international guest curators to select from the entire pool of members’ works. This selection is evaluated by the guest curator and publicly made available on the Academy's website. For contemporary photographers, new avenues of public interest can be opened up in this way, including opportunities for their work to become the subject of current public debates.
