Archival Item Of The Month | March 2026

Hendrik Faure has enriched the DFA conferences with lectures on numerous occasions, always bringing along a selection of his heliogravure prints, which he generously gave away to members. DFA colleague Christoph Linzbach visited Faure for several days to observe the complex and seemingly outdated intaglio printing process.

Videos Winter Conference 2025 in Erfurt

Recordings of selected lectures from the DFA Winter Conference 2025 (6–7 December) at the Kunsthalle Erfurt are now available on YouTube. The contributions address key issues in current photography debates – from artistic strategies and image politics to ethics, authorship and AI, as well as journalistic and publishing perspectives and specific photographic positions from Erfurt. Anyone who would like to relive the conference or missed individual lectures will find a compact introduction to the topics and discussions of the weekend here.

Guest Curators

The DFA regularly invites international guest curators to select from the entire pool of members’ works. This selection is evaluated by the guest curator and publicly made available on the Academy's website. For contemporary photographers, new avenues of public interest can be opened up in this way, including opportunities for their work to become the subject of current public debates.

Verena Kaspar-EIsert has been chief curator of the MuseumsQuartier Wien since October 2022. Previously, she was curator at KUNST HAUS WIEN from 2014-2022 and curator of the FOTO WIEN photo festival from 2019-2022. She specialises in contemporary photography and art that deals with ecological issues.
