Short Bio
Magnus Pölcher holds an MA in Communication Sciences from the Freie Universität of Berlin and is a graduate of the picture editing class 2017/18 at the Ostkreuz School of Photography in Berlin.
In addition to his work as web and social media editor (Goethe-InstitutLondon, Humboldt Forum Berlin), he worked for 2.5 years as curatorial assistant at the Haus der Photographie / Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Today he writes about photography as a visual expert and develops independent exhibition projects as curator. A further focus for him is therefore how art institutions can transfer their exhibitions and programs into the digital world.
Curatorial Statement
'My selection of pictures is inspired by the song cycle WINTERREISE by Franz Schubert. When I researched the DFA image database, the first verses of WINTERREISE began by chance on my Spotify profile: 'A stranger I arrived here, a stranger I go hence'. I liked the motif of winter and the visual associations associated with it, which I could then discover in the pictures. In the selected works I was fascinated by the way the pictures take up the unconscious, escapism, nature or night, and at the same time all subjects of the cultural-historical epoch of the Romanticism, from which the WINTER JOURNEY also originates, and transport them into the present. So put on your headphones and join me on my photographic winter journey!'
