To mark the closing of the exhibition “In Gedanken sah ich schon mein erstes Foto”, the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum dedicates two evenings to Roland Bauer: Prof. Dr. Claude W. Sui places his work within the history of documentary photography, while the finissage offers an opportunity to revisit and honour Bauer’s photographic legacy.

In this Zoom talk, Nina Poppe and Wolfgang Zurborn will present their book designs featuring Tjefa Wegener’s work from the ‘Alpsommer’ series and discuss the results with the photographer and the audience. The photobook experts will explain, step by step, how they arrived at their editorial choices for the publication, in order to make the book design process, with all its content-related and formal considerations, easy to follow.

The DFA regularly invites international guest curators to select from the entire pool of members’ works. This selection is evaluated by the guest curator and publicly made available on the Academy's website. For contemporary photographers, new avenues of public interest can be opened up in this way, including opportunities for their work to become the subject of current public debates.

Verena Kaspar-EIsert has been chief curator of the MuseumsQuartier Wien since October 2022. Previously, she was curator at KUNST HAUS WIEN from 2014-2022 and curator of the FOTO WIEN photo festival from 2019-2022. She specialises in contemporary photography and art that deals with ecological issues.
