Open Call – Portfolio Presentation
on Saturday 5 December as part of the DFA conference
at the Deichtorhallen, Hamburg
Closing date for applications: 5 November 2026
The German Photographic Academy, in cooperation with the Friends of the Haus der Photographie, is organising a portfolio presentation. This will take place as part of the German Photographic Academy’s winter conference (5–6 December).
Through this format, we are giving emerging artists the opportunity to present their artistic photographic work to a professional audience and to engage personally with experts from both theory and practice:
- Presentation: Selected photographers will present their work in a three-minute presentation during the conference.
- Round Tables: This will be followed by a discussion in small, topic-based groups, moderated by experts from the fields of art, research/teaching and the media. The jury members (see below) will also be taking part.
- The expert jury consists of Prof. Dr Karen Fromm (Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts), Karen Irmer, Katrin Jaquet and Prof. Dr Claude W. Sui (all from the DFA), as well as Stephanie Bunk and Anja Kneller (both from the Friends of the Haus der Photographie).
- Presenters are warmly invited to attend the entire conference. Further information on the programme is available at www.dfa.photography
This call for entries is aimed in particular at graduates of art and photography degree programmes, but is also open to experienced artists with an independent professional practice.
Application & Conditions of Participation
A PDF in landscape format (max. 5 MB) containing
- 5–10 images
- a short text about the work (max. 500 characters)
- a recent short biography (max. 500 characters)
- website, Instagram and full contact details
- Subject line: Application for portfolio presentation in Hamburg – First name and surname
- Closing date: 5 November 2026

By submitting your application, you agree that we may use your images for publicity purposes on our website and our social media channels.
A joint jury comprising members of the DFA and the Freundeskreis Photographie will select around twelve participants from the submitted works. The selected participants will be notified by mid-November and informed of the exact programme.
