Meinrad Schade: Orchids and War
Swiss photographer Meinrad Schade has been working for many years on his project “War Without War” - an observation of societies and regions shaped by experiences of violence, especially in the former USSR and Israel/Palestine.
It becomes clear that today’s heated conflicts - from Ukraine to the Middle East - are merely the extreme manifestations of political processes that have long relied on violence to organize the distribution of power in their own interests. In fact, they thus fail at the most fundamental level: that of enabling people to live together well and sustainably.
Meinrad Schade speaks with Andreas Langen about flowers, the process of turning into a statue, and approaches to the absurdity of life.
