Elka Jordanow

Short Bio

Elka Jordanow, born 1961, gallery owner, is the founder and owner of Galerie Jordanow in Munich.

In 2003, she opened the gallery Wäcker & Jordanow together with Dr. Erika Wäcker-Babnik - since 2007 she has been running it under the name Galerie Jordanow. While in the beginning only contemporary photography was shown, the exclusive focus on the medium has expanded. The description now reads: Galerie Jordanow specialises in contemporary art - with a focus on photography.

Since then, there have been exhibitions with the following positions, among others: Hans-Christian Schink, Regina Schmeken, Olaf Unverzart, Eva Leitolf, Margriet Smulders, Veronika Kellndorfer, Guido Baselgia, Carola Vogt and Peter Boerboom, Birgit Jürgenssen, Albrecht Tübke, Moritz Partenheimer and Benedikt Partenheimer, Harald F. Müller, Frank Darius, Hubertus Hamm, Vera Mercer, Robert van der Hilst, Gunda Förster, Rolf Sachs, Martin Kollar, Horst Schäfer, Susanne Thiemann, Thomas Schulz, Manfred Mayerle.

Curatorial Statement

'After reviewing the images of the DFA members several times, my selection is based on the following considerations - in addition to an intuitive approach:

I am interested in the strong single image, which is purely committed to the visual language and does without language mediation and many explanations. A picture that sets the viewer's thoughts and ideas in motion - but does not prescribe a direction and does not judge - nor does it manipulate. An image that is based on a convincing idea or concept. A picture that fascinates, attracts and surprises through its pictorial and photographic means such as composition, light and colour.

Since the themes of nature and landscape run through my gallery work, I have selected three positions (Becker, Mohné, Simons) whose approach is independent and convincing.'
