Boris Eldagsen (DFA) and Alexander Hagmann (@diemotive.de) talked on 30 March 2022 to Dr Tilman Treusch, gallery owner and art historian, about the development of the photo art market and the role of photography in contemporary art.
We talked about the common thread of his work so far, the mediation of images to a specific audience, what he appreciates about being a gallery owner and how the gallery finds new artists. We talked about NFTS, ParisPhoto, what distinguishes the art fair in Dubai from European fairs, and the current collaboration with the Frankfurt gallery Anita Beckers. Afterwards, Dr. Treusch showed us the current exhibition by Susa Templin.
Dr Tilman Treusch, born in 1968, holds a doctorate in art history. He studied at the universities of Mainz, Cologne and Berlin. From 1999 to 2004 he worked for OSTKREUZ. Agentur der Fotografen, after which he was a research assistant and curator at the Kunsthalle Emden for four years. From 2008 to 2011, he worked as art historical assistant to the gallery owner at Galerie Nikolaus Ruzicska in Salzburg. Since the end of 2011, he has been director of the Kornfeld Gallery in Berlin. In addition to his dissertation on "Snow Pictures. Malerei in der kalten Jahreszeit" (Painting in the Cold Season), he publishes essays on art and art theory from the 19th century to the present day.
