Wolfgang Gscheidle: From Labour Photographer to Advertising Photographer
Stuttgart-based photographer Wolfgang Gscheidle has come a long way: From a left-wing activist in labor photography and the early days of the in the late 1960s to a successful still-life photographer working alongside industry giants like Dietmar Henneka in the advertising business of the 1980s and 1990s. Only now is Wolfgang Gscheidle devoting himself more intensively to his independent work, particularly ironic self-portrait installations.
In a podcast with Andreas Langen, he discusses the curse and blessing of a bald head, his enthusiasm for colored light, Hanns-Martin Schleyer’s milliner, and what the disappearance of analog photography has to do with chocolate Santa Clauses in Stuttgart stairwells.
Exhibition “Hauptsachen” by Wolfgang Gscheidle, running until 25 March 2026 at Kulturhaus Osterfeld, Pforzheim.
