DFA-Podcast #7.1
Lois Hechenblaikner: Visual Geiger counter in the disturbance zones of Tyrolean Alpine tourism
Since the mid-1990s, DFA photographer Lois Hechenblaikner has dedicated himself to the excesses of mass tourism in Tyrol; his illustrated book "Ischgl" was published unscheduled in the Corona year 2020.
Together with actor Tobias Moretti and playwright Felix Mitterer (Piefke-Saga), Hechenblaikner is one of the few Tyroleans who put their finger in the wound of the deformation of their homeland and are fiercely opposed for it.
The dystopian developments of Ballermann tourism in the hotspots and the destruction of nature for the skiing party are manifested by Hechenblaikner in precise photo series called "Glacier Pathology" or "Intensive Care Units".
In Part 1 of this podcast, Lois Hechenblaikner talks to Andreas Langen about the emotional experience and deep appreciation for the life of farming, as well as being shaped by the ravenous appetite of German holidaymakers. And about his artistic work: what images mass tourism produces, ski sculptures and why his photographs belong in the art context.
