DFA-Podcast #20 | Hendrik Faure: Digitalism Criticism with Copper Intaglio
Reiffenhausen
Hendrik Faure is one of probably three photographic artists in Europe who still produce heliogravures from the copper plate - and since, as is well known, the medium is the message, Faure does not shy away from radical minority positions in other respects either. He gives away his precious prints at random ("..to take a bit of commerce out of it"), whose production takes two full working days and whose editions end at eight to ten copies, due to wear and tear on the printing plate. DFA member Hendrik Faure runs a gallery in the countryside away from the former zonal border, unconcerned about visitor numbers. And about the current methods of photo production and processing, he says: "Digital technology is a good information carrier, but a miserable image carrier. Digitalism kills art and it is a state-sponsored drug."
