About

I grew up in Dresden and moved to East Berlin in the mid-1970s, where I studied art history and aesthetics at Humboldt University. Since the early 1980s, I have repeatedly collaborated with young artists and photographers with highly diverse aesthetic views in Germany and abroad, advising them, writing about them and curating exhibitions with them. For over 30 years, I worked for the artist programme at Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin.

Statement

I have always been interested in the relationship between art and power, which for many artists and intellectuals often seems to take the form of an aggressively opportunistic process of conformity. Breaking away from the trail of slime requires a degree of moral courage – and, of course, is not rewarded with medals and honours. Nevertheless, the non-conformists around the world who have at least a partial public audience are taking action to make the reservoir of discontent public.
